STURGEON FARM
Here the Volga river meets the Caspian Sea. Beyond this invisible line you will see nature as it is, protected from the human interference for over 100 years now.
The first Nature reserve of Soviet Russia is just next door.
During summer we invite you to take a walk along the "Discovering Delta" eco trail. Volga river to the place where it flows to the Caspian Sea.
Wild sturgeons have become rare and expensive. But people have learned to breed them in captivity.
Farm raised sturgeon taste is very similar to wild caught sturgeon. Since the sturgeon is listed in the Red Book, ethical considerations completely eliminate the difference. ⠀ The sturgeon farm near Samosdelka is always open for our guests.
ASTRAKHAN RESERVE
SAMOSDELKA VILLAGE
There are plenty of historic and archaeological sites right across the river.
Here scientists discovered three ancient cities: the capital of the Khazar Kaganate, the trading city of Saksin, and one of the settlements of the Golden Horde.
In the summer you may even join a team of local archaeologists and find something of value.
Our village name literally means "handmade" or even more precisely "self-development". It suggests that people have historically settled here on their own, without permission from the authorities.
This is an ordinary Russian village. Not rich but proud. In the local church the relics of St. Matrona of Moscow are kept. The village is rich in song and dance traditions. Newly built cultural center and tennis court are available. Samosdelka is the only place in the Volga Delta where you can fish all year round, in luxury.
